Cosplay facts and other strange stories

I remember going to a convention and had a friend, well...he's still around and he's actually a great cosplayer. So anyway, while I was watching him interact, I was suddenly realizing a horrible factor, the people that he was talking to were actually not so pleasant. I'm sorry to say this about groups of people, but when it comes down to it, there are some cosplayers out there who were just out right rude and not pleasant.

The few I met have been warm and accepting, but there is something to say that comes with a forked tongue. There are those who use that whole cosplay factor as a popularity catch, I don't do cosplay for popularity, but I do it for the fun of it.

And there are times I see people just pick on other cosplayers like crazy and it isn't cool, it isn't funny either, its rude! I don't pick on other cosplayers, that's the one thing I don't do...because I know how much heart they put into these costumes! Seriously, though when I was watching from the sidelines for a few years, I couldn't help, but be involved, I finally just said, "Okay, this isn't cool!" Yeah, I can be mean and just be as cruel as these girls were toward my friend. Yeah, he has a few problems, yeah he doesn't have a girlfriend, nor do I think he wants one with the way he was treated!

Cosplay is about having fun people! Look at my friend dressed up from a "The Devil is a Daytimer!" Its the greatest thing I ever saw! In fact I really saw him as the main character in that anime and also hope he keeps on doing it, even though he has said over the years he wants to stop, um...I don't think so!

I just wish the people who say mean things about him, myself, and a few others would stop, I don't hate on them for what they did. Yeah, I threw out some guy back in 2009, and that was years ago and I still get this horrid reminder of it every so often when I go to conventions like Nan Desu Kan, yeah, like people need to remind me...that being an adult sucks!

So here is something I'm going to say on Writer's Corner, if you read this and you see my friend or any person cosplay at least take a picture at least celebrate that great fact they dressed up and put effort into it.

There are my friends, myself, my friend, Angel, and Audrey, and guess what, we're cosplaying, I'm doing Armand from Vampire Chronicles comic 1996, Angel is dressed up from Supernatural and my friend, Audrey is dressed up from Danny Phantom. So don't judge a cosplayer just by how we look! Judge by what we feel!

Other problems that come up, when it comes to cosplay, yeah, we have a lot of stupid stereotypes that I would like to throw off.

1. Cosplayers are anti-social, being in cosplay is how we express ourselves.
Okay some asshole actually said that to me once, that i was just expressing my individuality by being stupid...um....NO! Actually being a cosplayer doesn't mean that at all, we express ourselves in many different ways, I draw and work on a book! So there is self expression in ways you don't see.

2. Cosplayer girls are just sluts in disguise
This one pisses me off because I have a few friends who coplay characters that are otherwise considering a bit on the risque side and let's just put it bluntly NO! She doesn't want a relationship because of this damn stereotype, geez...makes some guys feel real stupid.

3. Female cosplayers ask to get raped!
After having a friend who was raped just outside her work at Subway back in 2007, um...NO! Okay, Rape is the worst thing a person says and then stating that she deserved it because she cosplayed? Excuse me! So respecting Wonderwoman makes it OK to do something like that to a human? NO! Actually there are some female cosplayers who will actually bear mace someone for that

4. Only skinny people can cosplay
I know some plus sized cosplayers who will say otherwise, hell, I'm plus size and I have been doing this 12 years! I'm not stupid and I'm not going to say this lightly, welcome to 2016, the land of cosplay for fun or go the bleep home! I have seen some brave as hell women put on some cosplays that were not only good, but they are taller and bigger than me. Then again, no one has met my friend, Joe who cosplayed Coop from MegasXLR and let's just say this, he was the best I seen of the character!

Here are a few facts that also get me when it comes to cosplay and also Furries.

I'm going to drag this out, furries, people who dress in Fur Suits, I have several images of fursuitors who are just great people all around.

Okay, yes, Furries show up at Anime Conventions, that's just a given, they show up just about anywhere! Do I have to tell you why...no...considering they themselves are also friends to me. I'm a Furry myself and I'm going to point out something to people. Furries are not PERVERTS! Okay, that's it I said it, we're not pedophiles, we're not anything like that at all. If you were to walk into a Fur meet, we have our opinions of Cosplayers and also people who parade around saying they are furries and turn out to be the bottom rung of the group.

Furries in most sense are just people who have their own ways and hobbies. We are people, that's just it and we are cosplayers as well. We walk into a convention and fit just as much like a glove. I love walking up to a fursuitor and hugging them and congradulating them on their work!

Here are a few stereotypes I love to throw out the door.

1. Furries have sex in their costume
Um....sure let's have sex in a $2000 or more costume, what are you thinking? Well..I can't say all are like this, but let me say the vast majority will stare at the person saying this and slap them in the fact with a paw and tell them, "What are you nuts?" Yeah, we're not!

2. Majority of Furries are Gay
Um....that's actually a fact, there are a huge community of LGBT furries, while there is a minority of furries who are well...STRAIGHT! Some of the straight furs are actually questioning at the sometime they do make up a great deal of the fandom. So yeah...here is a little fact though, LGBT furries are just as responsible as any others. not to mention they also don't like it when we get undesirable figures.

3. Furries are just gross and down bathe
O_O okay, if any person who has met some of the furs I know, they are obsessed with a bath tub, they will take long hot showers, they will remove their suit on regular intervals at a con and actually cool the freaking hell down. Who wants to overheat and get sweaty? I know I don't!

4. Furries aren't cosplayers
FACT! We're not, in fact even though we are considered part of the Cosplay groups, we actually don't see ourselves as cosplayers. Though we are told otherwise at conventions. Yeah, donning ears and tails aren't going to make you a cosplayer or a furry though...so don't put it on airs like that people, because yeah, there are costumes that require it, but when furries do it, its just saying who we are.

5. What's with the badges?
Okay, we get and collect badges so do majority of all furries and even regular nonfurs, so don't get too over excited when you see me with at least six on that have my fursona name on it. Hell, there are people who are nonfurs who join in because they like it. Furries and nonfurs have this one thing in common we love badges! ^_^ So let's just get that out of the way.

Why are the furries even mentioned on a post about Cosplay Facts?

Okay, I'm going to say way, because Furries are part of the fandoms, they cross all boards, I have met furries at StarFest or even Animeland Wasabi several times. They walk through the doors, they are just as average a fan as the rest of them and some of them are cosplayers as well. I'm a furry and a cosplayer and it makes things a little strange when you have to explain why you are wearing ears and a tail and staring at a magazine on how to design your own fursuit or staring a cosplay magazine cheering on a cosplayer friend you met on a webpage.

I'm proud to call myself NERD, that's one thing I like to just say, I'm a nerd, I'm not just a Furry, or Cosplayer, I'm a NERD! I'm just an average person who loves dressing up in this and that, but being a Cosplayer or even a Furry has this in common, we are forever in awe of all things costume!
