Let's put something bad to an end

Reading today's political section of the New York Times online has left me with an interesting view of the world. Considering that someone wants to put an end to the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy that was put in the military years ago and has been there since. It is the fact that Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual, and many others have suffered under this horrible idea for little over a decade and having it finally looked at again, it is time to put away this part of our history.

Many people over the years in the military had to live with this in the shadow of their daily lives. Considering that when this was established was to protect homosexuals, this actually did more harm than good. It was almost saying, well, you can be here, but you can't say anything or do anything, you can't date, you can't have any contact with someone you might be in love with. It was a nasty bit of business if someone were to find too, many military men were hazed when they were found to be gay, not to mention it was just something that could kill them.

I remember a movie about a lesbian in the military back in the 1950s, she was basically ousted and suddenly was found on the streets. She was found at a gay club, and was arrested, so she was suddenly forced to face the reality that she would be forced out.

It is the fact that people are always going to be cruel to what they view as the lesser, I have been the victim of that. People think that I have money, but when they find out I don't, I'm basically shoved away. So it is of the same factor in some cases, if someone is gay and the rest of the group is not, they will be forced out whether they like it or not.

I wish some people grew up as I did, looking at it in the view that its OK.

Anyway, a Nevada Senator decided to go ahead with the repel of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," to clearly challenge the aged Senator McCain. It isn't just a clear stand that maybe this policy is just not fair and also bars people who might be wanting to help the US in a time of war.

Even McCain's wife appeared to want an end to the policy when she appeared on TV to advertise the end of bullying of gay teenagers. This was a clear view that maybe it is time that some peopel actually take a look at what this type of crap is doing to people.

Ried is also pushing something I agree with because I know people who entered this country under less than legal means. Illegal Immigrants who have lived here before the age of 16, have a clean criminal record, as in no arrests and so forth, have completed all four years of high school and are able to go to college will be able to get citizenship. Sadly this is a little too late for some of my friends who came here illegally, some of them have actually gotten work Visas and also working toward citizenship for themselves and their families.

One friend of mine is actually working toward this in other ways too, he has been sending money to his family to take care of their debts and also see if he can bring his wife and son over. He has told me that working in the US is better and also he wants his son to go to a real school and not go to a school where it is not education.

I have mixed feelings on this matter, considering that there are so many people who milk the system for so long.

Considering that issues at hand and also the fact that "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," is a horrible idea and that gays in the military aren't a scary thing. Think about it like this, I'm a Wiccan and bisexual myself, am I so threatening?
