The Conventions and Convention Drama

I suggest anyone who goes to a convention of any kind to read this before you start packing your bags and start finding your money. Set yourself up for learning social skills 101 on how to deal with what is called Convention Drama.

What is convention drama?
1. Convention Drama is the result of tensions gathered either by outside sources, the popularity of people and so forth.
2. Conventions can also mean close quarters with people whom you may not even like, but share the same hobbies with.
3. Emotionally unstable feelings of resentment and also feeling snubbed by people who are your peers who don't understand your hobby. (Mundanes outside of the convention who show up to belittle or often times just drink because its an excuse)
4. Finding out some friends of yours may have friends that you don't enjoy.
5. Relationship issues, sometimes finding you have a girlfriend or boyfriend at the convention that isn't altogether faithful.

All of these factors do lead up drama, mostly this is not easy to handle and will take up to months to patch up and move on with ones lives. I have seen the drama and seen people who will just go out and be freaking nasty. In other words, I will say this as you pack your bags for any convention, whether is huge like Anime Expo or as small as Nan Desu Kan in Colorado, do yourself a favor, whether the drama is with a friend or something, find a common ground with these people.

Follow these helpful advice:
1. Know your friends, know the people who are those who will help and support you.
2. Don't cause drama yourself, just stay with the group of people you know won't turn on you.
3. If a problem arises know when to walk away or call the right people to get involved.
4. By all means do not always include con security, because you might get your badge punched or worse.
5. Don't expect people who are your friends to take sides, find the neutral path and stick with it!
6. Stay in the public areas, if you are in the public areas, panels and so forth, then the people causing drama will have themselves to blame if they start picking fights.
7. Don't be afraid to ask someone for help, whether it is con security or hotel security, because having a weapon drawn on you can be a pain.

The best thing to say right now is: JUST DO NOT CAUSE DRAMA IN THE FIRST PLACE!

I am someone who has been through the drama, whether it is outside or inside the convention, at times, people can be nice. Just do yourself the favor if drama is around, just don't get involved in it. Especially if it is fights over who is better, Pirates vs. Ninja, that fight will go on until the end of conventions as we know it.

So now that the convention is upon us all do yourselves the favor, just follow these words of the person who has gone to the conventions for ten years. Do yourself the huge favor of just staying out of it.
