Piercing News
Reading the Yahoo news, which is uncommon for me, I stumbled across a report about something that I find interesting.
Just read about a student who is suspended for a nose piercing: Click here
Its stupid, considering how backward the world is now, I have this to say on the matter, if the student was from India it is common for girls to have their nose pierced, it is a sign of maturity and beauty. I would say that I side with the factor that people who go around saying, this is or that is wrong, has to think of the cultural thoughts before voicing it.
The ACLU have for years been saying they are for people's rights, to be honest, that is far from the case in some situations. I have seen it all and to be honest, in historical conditions of this country, which was founded on Christian ONLY ideals, most of the minority religious groups are still trying to find a voice of which to yell.
Consider if you will the situation in 1982, a group of peopel who accused of being witches and abusing their child, causing the extraction of dozens of children. Just read this: Modern Witch Hunt and Backerfield on Religious Tolerance.org
As someone who does practice Wicca, it is almost stupid to go around and say, "Piercings like that are against school dress code," if that is the case, then you are telling a dozen or so Indian (students from India) students that they are not allowed to still practice Hindu in this country. Has even anyone realized that yet or are they just too stupid to notice that there are millions of Hindu women who still practice that type of ritual?
Piercings on the other hand to me are not important, school is not about how people look, its about education. I have seen people go around saying sports and crap go on in high schools, which is kind of pointless. Kids are supposed to be getting ready for their SATs and ACTs, they shouldn't be bossed around by the school on how they dress. If that is the case, why aren't public schools issuing uniforms to students if they want to keep a dress code?
Japan has a dozen different types of school uniforms that are used, I mean it, if the public schools are so heavy on dress codes and such, why not just use the uniforms seen in Japan as part of it. It isn't as if the school doesn't pay enough for textbooks, the least they could do is supply students with uniforms that will not only show some of the school pride.
The whole concept of telling people what they can and cannot wear sometimes boggles me. I have sat through PTSA meetings and seeing how stupid some of the bickering is about how students are dressing. I have said a dozen times, I have no problem with uniforms at school. I just feel that parents and teachers are getting basically making themselves to look like freaking idiots in the end to their children.
High School is not about going around saying this and that, about what is popular and what is not popular. Schools in some sense are losing to an audience of trying to keep up with the idea of controling that changes of said individuals who are remarkably different.
Historically, students who have had changes on their schools is when the 1940s and into the present, students who have long held the ideals of girls wearing skirts, well....let's face it, some of the girls who were in school hated the idea. So in the 1960s and into the 1970's girls in most high schools decided to start wearing pants, these kids were suspended or expelled without even a just reason. Then some students who issued walk outs and such suddenly made the statement that some of the problems with not modernizing or causing problems.
The problems did spread away from clothing too, into religious beliefs, in many states and many schools there were prayer in schools. This was changed later on and it was taken out as part of the fact that some of the students were not Christians and there raised the debate in the nation of whether or not it was a good idea. I don't stand with the idea that prayer is a good idea. I'm a Wiccan, so it is standard reasoning if there is prayer in school then all religions should be included, not Just Christian this or that.
Again, let's get back on the topic, I would tell people that prayer and other religious things really don't have a place, but you also have remember the cultures of which we live in. Many people are living with the idea that maybe what goes on outside our nation or cultural group STAYS, you are all idiots! If there are a melting pot! Then there should always be one!
